Arsenal

Emiliano Martinez – 8: Was tested by Mount early and answered with an athletic and firm stop. Also denied a powerful Pulisic effort soon after. Distribution was calm and tidy.

Rob Holding – 7: A big occasion for the defender at the end of a season without much gametime. With that in mind, he put in a disciplined performance.

David Luiz – 7: A couple of long passes from the centre-back nearly set up the Gunners’ forwards here and there. Carried in some momentum from a fine semi-final showing.

Kieran Tierney – 7: Was always going to be up for this one. Worked hard on the left and contributed some good forward passes for Maitland-Niles.

Hector Bellerin – 7: Combined well with Pepe on the right, frequently finding his way into the Chelsea area.

Granit Xhaka – 8: A vital presence for the Gunners in the centre of the pitch, passing and tackling well from start to finish. Also showed his experience in the final moments to wind down the clock.

Dani Ceballos – 7: Midfielder combines tenacity and creativity impressively, and he displayed both attributes at Wembley.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 8: Impressive pace and footwork on the left flank saw the youngster set up Aubameyang, whose finish was missing, early on. Looked Arsenal’s best outlet for much of the match.

Nicolas Pepe – 8: Was very lively on the right wing. Had failed to carve out any genuinely clear opportunities until he picked out Aubameyang neatly for his team’s second goal.

Alexandre Lacazette – 6: Wasn’t as threatening as his fellow forwards, but didn’t particularly put a foot wrong either.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 9: Won and scored the penalty that drew things level, then gave the Gunners the lead with a beautiful dink over Caballero.

Chelsea

Willy Caballero – 6: Creaked a little bit as Arsenal piled on the pressure. Was only beaten by a penalty and a magical finish, in all fairness, but will still be somewhat frustrated.

Reece James – 7: Little to criticise in the 20-year-old’s case. Was – unsurprisingly – not fazed by the occasion.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 4: Wasn’t all too convincing in his attempts to deal with Maitland-Niles, and brought down Aubameyang for the penalty. Then went off injured before the break.

Kurt Zouma – 6: Performed well for the most part in the centre of defence, but was guilty of being a bit statuesque as Arsenal peppered the Blues’ box with crosses in the first half. Was also beaten by Aubameyang for the Gunners’ second goal.

Antonio Rudiger – 7: Took Chelsea’s pressing to the extreme by storming into the Arsenal box at one point, an endeavour that nearly paid off as Pepe stumbled with the ball. Was more solid in defence than some of his movement suggested.

Marcos Alonso – 6: Started sharply, both defensively and when looking to make things happen up the left flank, but lost his edge. One botched clearance almost proved disastrous for his side.

Jorginho – 7: Kept it simple and tidy in the middle of the pitch.

Mateo Kovacic – 5: Booked for a lunging challenge on Xhaka in the first half and fouled Ceballos in a dangerous position just seconds later. Was unlucky to to be sent off in the second half, it has to be said.

Mason Mount – 8: Looked very much motivated. Tested Martinez well at the start of the game and was involved in the lead-up to Pulisic’s early finish. Was unfortunate to be booked for a tackle on Ceballos.

Olivier Giroud – 8: An almost trademark flick from the Frenchman marked the assist for Pulisic to put Chelsea ahead in the first five minutes.

Christian Pulisic – 8: Provided a deft and clinical finish for the opener after playing a key role in the build-up to the goal, too. Lit up the game at times and his injury-enforced departure at the start of the second half was a real shame.
